Dry lips are a bummer. They don’t feel great, and they do nothing good for your makeup. Matte lip products will catch on dry spots and shiny glosses will accentuate any patchy-ness. So while I know everyone is religious about exfoliating their face and body (right? RIGHT?), it’s important to exfoliate the lips too.
If you like the glowy skin or the beachy look, you have to have smooth, soft looking lips. And if you are into a crimson 1940s matte lip or a super light 1960s lip, dry, cracked lips will kill that too. Lip neglect is not only bad skincare protocol, it’s bad makeup protocol. So get with it!
I have used a number of lip scrubs in my life, both homemade and store-bought. None of them ever impressed me much, but I kept searching. I recently came across the Ava Anderson Non Toxic Sugar Lip Scrub, and my lips and I love it.
This lip scrub definitely does the job, which is more than I can say for many of the ones I’ve tried. It has a spearmint taste–so much better than the chemical aftertaste many of the brands I’ve tried have had. Because, let’s face it, this is a lip scrub. Some of it is going to get into your mouth. I would rather have it taste like gum than plastic, but maybe that’s just me.
I don’t know if it’s the pistacia vera seed oil or the spearmint leaf oil, but one of the oils in this product makes it a comfortable scrub to use. It’s not overly gritty, nor it is slimy. And you only need a tiny amount per application. This means the very reasonable $12.95 you pay for it will really be worth it.
Ava Anderson Non Toxic is a great line, and I’m looking forward to trying more of the products. I recently purchased an Ava face moisturizer too, but I’ll save that for another blog review.
